Completely dead steam โ no sound, no pressure, nothing from the wand โ points to a different set of causes than weak steam. Work through these in order.
01Steam thermostat tripped or failed
The Silvia has separate coffee and steam thermostats on top of the boiler. Check whether the machine heats normally in coffee mode โ if it does, but steam mode produces nothing, one of the thermostats has very likely tripped or failed and needs testing or replacement.
02Machine left on for an extended period
If the machine was accidentally left powered on for a long time (hours), this can sometimes trip internal thermal protection. Power off, let it fully cool for at least 30 minutes, then test again before assuming a component has failed.
03Long-term storage without descaling
Machines stored for months or years without use โ even if cleaned before storage โ can develop internal blockages or valve issues. If this matches your situation, a thorough descale (see our descaling guide) combined with cycling the steam function repeatedly is worth trying before assuming a hardware failure.
04Physical blockage in the wand
Remove the steam wand tip and check for solidified milk residue or a dislodged internal component (some owners have found broken pieces of an internal gasket lodged in the tip). Clear any visible obstruction with a thin wire or pin.
