Weak steam that struggles to build proper microfoam is different from no steam at all. On the Silvia, this is usually one of three causes.

01Not waiting long enough for steam-ready temperature

The Silvia's single boiler needs real time to transition from brew temperature to the higher steam temperature. Rushing this โ€” testing steam within seconds of switching the steam switch โ€” will always feel weak. Wait for the ready light to fully indicate steam temperature before judging pressure.

02Clogged steam tip

Dried milk in the small holes at the tip reduces effective steam pressure noticeably, even with a fully heated boiler. Clear each hole individually with a pin, and purge the wand into a cloth before and after each use to prevent buildup.

03Scale buildup restricting the boiler

Mineral buildup inside the boiler reduces the volume available for steam generation over time. If pressure has weakened gradually over months, descaling is the most likely fix โ€” see our descaling guide for the Silvia's specific process.

Quick check Time how long you're waiting after switching to steam mode โ€” under 30 seconds is often simply too soon on a single-boiler machine like this one.
