A completely dead machine and a machine stuck showing only a yellow/amber light are two different problems with mostly different causes. Check which one you actually have before troubleshooting further.

01Completely dead โ€” no lights at all

Start with the basics: test the outlet with another appliance, and inspect the power cord for damage. If both check out, an internal thermal fuse (blown from long-term scale buildup) is the most likely remaining cause on an older unit.

02Yellow/amber light stuck on

On most Magnifica models, an amber "ready" light that never turns solid green (or stays flashing) typically indicates the machine is still heating, or is waiting on a condition to be met before it will proceed โ€” most commonly a water tank or bean hopper that isn't fully seated.

Quick check Remove and firmly reseat both the water tank and the drip tray assembly, even if they look correctly placed โ€” the internal sensors on these models are sensitive to slight misalignment.

03Water hardness / filter setup incomplete

Some Magnifica models won't proceed past initial setup if the water hardness setting hasn't been configured, particularly if a water filter was recently installed or replaced. Check your model's manual via De'Longhi's support center for the water hardness test and setting procedure.

04Brew group not correctly inserted

If the infuser/brew group was removed for cleaning and not reinserted correctly, many Magnifica models will refuse to complete startup. Remove it again, ensure it slides in fully until it clicks, and close the service door completely.

Don't force the brew group The infuser unit only inserts one way and shouldn't require force. If it doesn't slide in smoothly, the internal gears may not be aligned โ€” rotate the small lever on the front of the unit gently to line it up rather than pushing harder.
