A cup that consistently fills only halfway, even with the volume dial set to full, almost always points to a partially blocked brew unit (infuser) rather than a settings problem.

01Remove and inspect the brew unit

Open the service door, remove the brew group (twisting the release lever per your model's instructions), and inspect it under running water. Coffee oil buildup inside the mesh filter is the most common cause of reduced flow.

Cleaning tip Rinse the brew group under warm running water only โ€” never put it in a dishwasher or use soap, both of which can damage the internal mechanism or leave residue that affects taste.

02Check the shower screen / dispensing spout

Beyond the brew unit itself, the small perforated disc water passes through before reaching your cup can also clog with fine grounds or scale. Clean it with a soft brush, and consider a full descale if scale is visible.

03Grind set too fine

An overly fine grind setting creates more resistance than the machine's fixed pressure can push through in the expected time, resulting in a partial pour before the cycle times out. Try a slightly coarser grind setting if you've recently adjusted it.

04Descale overdue

Scale restricting internal water flow can produce the same symptom as a clogged brew unit. If it's been months since your last descale, that's worth ruling out before disassembling anything further โ€” see our descaling guide.
