The Classic Pro uses a single boiler shared between brewing and steaming, which makes recovery time the most common overlooked cause of weak steam on this specific machine.
01Not enough recovery time (single-boiler design)
Because brewing and steaming share one boiler, switching to steam mode immediately after pulling a shot doesn't give the boiler time to reach steam temperature. Wait for the ready light to fully indicate steam-ready status โ typically 30-60 seconds after switching the steam knob โ before expecting full steam pressure.
02Clogged steam tip
Dried milk residue in the small holes at the wand tip is the most common physical blockage. Use the pin often included with the machine, or a toothpick, to clear each hole individually โ never a metal object that could widen them.
03Not purging before use
A quick burst of steam into a cloth before frothing clears condensation sitting in the wand from the last use, which otherwise saps early steam pressure.
04Scale buildup restricting the boiler
If steam has weakened gradually over months rather than failed suddenly, scale is a likely contributor. See our descaling guide โ the Classic Pro's aluminum boiler needs a specific, careful approach to avoid over-descaling.
